Tile is a must-have gadget for anyone who has a tendency to lose things. This morning Tile announced its latest Bluetooth tracker called Tile Slim. It takes everything we loved from previous Tile iterations and packs it into an amazingly slender form factor.
Here’s a look at how it’ll help you track down your missing keys, phone, laptop, wallet and other valuables:
You can locate any lost item up to 100-feet away by sound using the iOS/Android mobile app. As long as you remember to attach a Tile to it, of course. It also works in the opposite way. Just click the button on your Tile and it’ll ring your iPhone even if it’s set to silent. These features in addition to Tile’s expansive lost and found community are extremely helpful in recovering misplaced items.
Tile Original is great for attaching to a keyring or even a dog’s collar, but it’s just too thick (5.3mm) for some scenarios. On the other hand, Tile Slim is approximately the same thickness as 2 credit cards (2.4mm) so it can easily slide into your wallet or attach to a flat surface (like your MacBook or TV remote) without getting in the way. As with other Tile trackers, the battery inside Tile Slim lasts a year at which time you’ll need to get a replacement through the reTile program.
You can buy a single Tile Slim for $30 or $25 as part of a multi-pack. Tile Original remains available and is priced at $25.
Moreover, Tile also launched the Tile Smart Location Platform that’ll allow third parties to leverage “Tile’s entire technology stack, mobile app and network.” So in the future you won’t need to attach a tracker to some items, instead the smart location technology will be baked in. Nomad, one of our favorite iPhone and Apple Watch accessory makers, is among the first companies to jump onboard Tile’s new platform with its PowerPack portable battery pack (pre-order discount available!).
“The Tile community has powerful network effects. As more people use Tile, our service gets better and better, helping more people find more things faster,” said Farley. “Opening our platform to allow other companies to embed Tile’s smart location technology into their products will expand our network quickly, which creates value for all of our partners and consumers by finding items even faster.”
