In my house video games are required, per my fiancé’s request (obviously), to be in the basement and out of sight. I’m sure my love for Mortal Kombat’s skull shattering gore doesn’t help my cause, but it’s more than that. She also hates the ugly boxes and nests of wires that come along with gaming consoles.
Now, if I had the Love Hultén PIXELKABINETT 42 I have a feeling things would be pretty different. This full-size coin-operated arcade cabinet looks like a priceless piece of fine art and supports hundreds of classic games…
PIXELKABINETT 42’s design was “inspired by old industrial cabinets, vintage mixing consoles and early space travels.” This inspiration is clearly evident in the buttons, switches, and sliders used by Love Hultén. A glowing planetarium and an engraved saturn speaker grill complete the retro look and feel. Each limited edition cabinet is built-to-order and can be customized at the buyer’s request.
Available games can also be tweaked depending on which option you go with. The baseline 60 in 1 Vertical screen jamma board includes Ms. Pacman, Donkey Kong and Frogger, while the built-in computer with MAMA interface supports allows you to install Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis and other game files via USB. From a technical perspective it includes a 19-inch 4:3 LCD display, a built-in speaker, and 4-to-8 way joystick and push buttons.
This one of a kind beauty isn’t going to come cheap. Prices start at €3,699.00 (~$4,184.50).
