Admittedly, I am a bit of a bag connoisseur. Hauling around all my gear requires a well thought-out solution that not only keeps my stuff organized but also looks good doing it. There are plenty of bag options out there, but less that offer charging solutions and even fewer that do it well. Today we’ve spotted a new company that is aiming to solve on-the-go charging challenges and device storage. Through Indiegogo, AMPL has raised over $213,000 towards “the worlds smartest backpack”.
The SmartBag has a number of unique and interesting design cues, most notably providing a USB port in every pocket. However, the real question is how many times can it recharge your gadgets?

With six pockets and sleeves, the SmartBag from AMPL offers a number of areas to store devices while on the move, all in a TSA-friendly design. The base model, which is available for $249 via the Indiegogo campaign, contains a 18.5Wh battery that is capable of recharging an iPhone up to three times. Users will be able to upgrade the SmartBag with varying battery sizes. When upgraded to its max capacity, Powerbag will charge your iPad and laptop twice in addition to the three iPhone refills. For those who travel quite a bit, this has the potential to be a really nice solution for getting things done out on the road.
AMPL’s SmartBag also appears to have some well thought out secondary features, starting with the batteries, which are removable and can be used to charge any device. For example, if you were going out for a dinner you could slip one of the smaller batteries into your jacket to charge an iPhone. The larger “Laptop Boost” battery has an inverter add-on, giving it a traditional outlet.
This product is padded with foam and wrapped in a waterproof material, it is finished with a “shock absorbing” base. Additionally, it will have a companion iOS app that monitors battery levels and temperature within the bag. It will also alert you if you walk away from your devices, in hopes of cutting down on theft.
The SmartBag from AMPL is available via Indiegogo for eight more days, starting at $249, with an expected September ship date.
