Audio-Technica is introducing a few additions to its current headphone lineup today at IFA 2017 in Germany. Already the makers of some of our favorite options in various price ranges, we are getting a new wireless over-ear set as well some in-ears. While Audio-Technica does cater to just about everyone in terms of price, these new cans will certainly land in the more affordable range.
The new ATH-AR5BT carry similar tech as the already available ATH-AR3BT with a few minor additions. On top of full wireless transmission over Bluetooth aptX/AAC/SBC, you can expect up to 30-hours of battery life on a single charge, a 5 to 40KHz frequency response range and large 45mm drivers.
While Audio-Technica has specifically designed these headphones from the ground up as a wireless solution, it has built-in the possibility to run a wired connection for critical listening situations or when your battery dies on you at the wrong time.
There is no noise-cancellation technology here, but we are getting an adjustable headband with soft memory foam ear cups and a fold-up design. Although it looks as though a similar model has already released overseas, they will be available come November in black, silver or red for £169 ($218 or so).
The in-ears come in three variations with the ATH-CKR75BT, ATH-CKR55BT and ATH-CKR35BT. They feature 7 hours of battery life and will be made available come October. The main differences here include larger driver sizes and support for the aptX codec only available on the 55BT and 75BT models. By the sounds of it these new in-ears retain the same audio architecture as the previous generation CKR headphones, but forgo the wired connection.
The metal housing wireless ATH-CKR headphones are hitting in October starting at £55 ($71) and going up to £149 ($193).
