NERF’s upcoming Terrascout RC Drone Blaster is going to be a menace in your home

Seems like everyone is talking about drones these days. Prices are dropping each week, as well. Not to be left out, NERF has announced a new RC toy with a built-in camera and blaster. Want to make sure the kids can get in on the trend too, right? The N-Strike Elite Terrascout RC Drone Blaster will be limited to ground-level action. Probably a good move. That said, it’s going to be able to fire 18 darts in rapid succession and capture the whole thing on tape. It’s pretty impressive…

In classic NERF-style, the Terrascout features a bright orange color scheme with Transformer like qualities. There are two pieces to this kit: the drone itself and a handheld control that offers a semi-live look at what it’s seeing. NERF already has RC toys and camera equipped blasters, but this is the first time the two have collided in one package.

The tank is powered by a rechargeable battery system while the controller uses four AAs. NERF says that the tank can crawl over most any terrain as long as it’s not wet, thanks to a serious set of treads on the tires. The blaster can be aimed via the control system and operates independently of the main body. A 720p camera captures video on a built-in SD card that can later be shared like a typical digital camera.

All told, it’s no surprise that this kind of toy is coming down the pipeline. We’ve seen huge strides in video-capturing devices recently and that technology is simply trickling down to gear for younger consumers. However, don’t expect a price break. The Terrascout is due on retail shelves this fall with a $200 price tag. Maybe just opt for this best-selling $10 blaster and record the action with your iPhone.
