OMBEE’s modular standing desk turns any table into a upright workstation

We’re big proponents of standing desks here at gadgetnewsonline. As someone who works from home, I’m well aware of the challenges that come with sitting all day. While there are plenty of options on the market, prices have largely kept this product category out of the impulse purchase range.

Recently, we told you about NextDesk’s latest motorized creation that retails for $447. Today we’ve spotted a new Indiegogo project that cuts the price tag and offers a modular solution for nearly any setup. The OMBEE features a unique design with an eye on customization. Its price comes in at less than an iPad mini, making it an attractive option for those who prefer a more affordable solution.

OMBEE’s design is straightforward and focuses on turning traditional desks into standing workstations. A “high-impact and heat resistant material” has been shaped into a honeycomb design so that this kit can be personalized for a variety of situations. Each OMBEE comes with a briefcase like kit that opens to reveal all of the pieces needed to creating a standing desk. The box opens and can flipped over to make the desktop workspace.

From there, a series of six-inch legs can be attached for raising the surface to each user’s desired height. An angled laptop stand connects with the base to provide a resting spot for your display at eye-level. These three pieces make-up the main station. The side of the carrying case is detachable can be added to the desk for an extended work area.

Another key selling-point of the OMBEE board is that it’s designed for users to stand on while working. It has two rotating “anti-fatigue” mats that can hold loads up to 700 pounds. The built-in movement allows users to increase blood-flow to the rest of their body while also maintaining “ideal” posture.

The OMBEE Modular and Mobile Stand-up Desk launched on Indiegogo a few days back. At the moment, it stands at 70% of its $50,000 flexible goal. A pledge of $265 will deliver a desk in July, at which point the price will jump up to $350.
