Good news for prosumer videographers: 4K-capable equipment continues to drop in price. After DJI first made a splash with its new stable camera last month, American-based drone manufacturer Yuneec has introduced its own 4K option. Even better news? Its price tag comes in at just over 15% less than its competitor. Head below for more details on the new Tycoon ActionCam from Yuneec.
Much like DJI’s Osmo, Tycoon focuses on two key features: 4K capabilities and a built-in stabilization system. While GoPro’s HERO4 Black Camera offers similar high-end video resolution, it can be tricky to capture smooth footage without a stabilization system. This option from Yuneec aims to bring that gliding video previously reserved for professionals to the consumer ranks.
The Typhoon ActionCam isn’t short on features. Aside from capturing video at 4K resolutions, it is capable of 12MP still photos and slow motion at 1080p/120fps. These stats are very similar to the previously mentioned HERO4 Black. It also has a 115-degree field of view and a no-distortion lens. The built-in 1,400mAh battery is capable of providing 90 minutes of run time on a single charge.
“The Typhoon ActionCam is designed to extend Yuneec’s advanced camera technology from the sky to the ground. The ergonomic design allows you to take part in the action while capturing ultra-stable footage, rather than recording the action from afar with a tripod,” said Shan Phillips, CEO of Yuneec USA.
Yuneec has also included a home for iOS devices up to 6.4-inches in size. With the free CGO3 iOS app, users can control functions and view footage on-the-fly. The pitch of the camera can be controlled by a rolling wheel above the handle, while the camera itself is automatically leveled during use.
The new Typhoon ActionCam is available today for $550 directly from Yuneec.
