SLICK’s motorized mount takes the bumps out of your GoPro videos

GoPro’s action cameras are awesome. From surfing to skiing, skateboarding or mountain biking and hundreds of other activities in between, it’s now easier than ever to capture beautiful high resolution footage. However, the footage can get a little rocky from time to time as GoPro mounts do not have any give and simply move as the user does.

That’s where SLICK comes in. Instead of depending on traditional stationary mounts, this Kickstarter project uses a three axis accelerometer and gyroscopes to detect movement and adjusts the camera automatically. The difference between smooth gliding footage and traditional video is stunning.

SLICK weighs in at about half a pound and can work with most GoPro compatible mounting systems. It’s powered by a 12-volt 900mAh battery pack that is good for about two hours of usage before a recharge is needed. It is waterproof, which is key so that underwater fun can continue.

The magic occurs when the motorized arm adjusts in-sync with the users’ actions. All of that data collected by the accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer is instantly calculated to deliver a consistent shot. Because it has a moving pitch, roll and yaw, many of the issues behind bumpy and watchable footage should be solved.

In case you were wondering, the general public is interested in SLICK. After just two days on Indiegogo, the campaign has raised 242% of its goal. Although the initial run of early bird pricing has run out, SLICK can still be had for $209 with delivery in March of next year. That’s good for $70 off the final retail price.
