It was back in the Spring that we first detailed Amazon’s Dash Replenishment Service, which seemed like a joke at the time given its April 1st timing. Turns out it wasn’t and today those little push button devices that automatically order more home goods are now available. If you have the over/under on the price at $3 for these, you might be surprised.
In case you missed it, the premise is simple: when you’re out of a home good, simply press the button on the corresponding Dash button and a refill will arrive at your door step within a couple of days. It connects to your Wi-Fi and communicates directly with Amazon. Currently, the buttons are available for Prime members only at $5 a piece, you can sign up for a free trial here if you’re interested.
Amazon is offering its Dash Replenishment Service on a handful of goods at this time. Some of the more notable options include Tide, Bounty, Glad Trash Bags, Clorox Wipes, Gatorade and Gillette Fusion Razor Blades. It will be interesting to see what the response will be. If you’re a regular Amazon shopper with Prime benefits, there certainly is some potential benefit here. Of course, we’d prefer the buttons were free given that it will bring in more orders for Amazon, outweighing any losses.
I’m watching with a close eye, waiting for my favorite K-Cups to get a Dash button.
